One: The fact that 41 of the “New 52″ titles below are listed with higher numbers than over at ICv2.com is not an error. It’s because Diamond only reported 90% of their sales on the chart, to compensate for the fact that they were made returnable by DC if retailers met a specific quota. Since Diamond’s way of accounting for the incentive seems fairly arbitrary, I’ve re-added the missing 10% for those books to get a more accurate picture. Just keep in mind that those numbers probably wouldn’t have been as high if retailers weren’t required to meet a certain threshold to qualify for returnability. It’s just one more gimmick that publishers use. (As another result of this, don’t be surprised if the chart positions are all over the place, by the way.)
Two: Of the 11 remaining “New 52″ books, Batman, Justice League, Action Comics, Green Lantern and Flash have been promoted with multiple variant-cover editions, including 1:200 ones, that are likely to have boosted sales, as well. Special discounts, which also required retailers to meet a certain unit threshold, apply to Batwoman, Green Lantern: New Guardians, Stormwatch, Swamp Thing, Teen Titans and Wonder Woman, meanwhile. I’ll just mention those here, so keep in mind that these promotional initiatives are likely to have affected the numbers of those books. Whether it affected them more than the thresholds for returnability affected the other 41 titles, or less so, we have no way of knowing.

It’s another book that’s profiting considerably from the relaunch. The first issue went into its fourth printing and sold another 4,024 units in re-orders, meanwhile — it’s the only DC title that made the chart again in December.

Then again, the comparison is with issue #1 of the book’s previous run, in this case, which was also by Finch. Compared with issue #4 of that series, the “New 52″ version still wins by more than 20K units, so it’s another title that’s profited quite noticeably from the relaunch.

Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang’s Wonder Woman relaunch is one of the more acclaimed “New 52″ titles. Maybe the critical reception is contributing to the relatively mild drop-off. In terms of absolute numbers, the book still performing solidly, as well, historically, even if the relaunch didn’t exactly send sales through the roof.

The wrap-up to the first volume of Grant Morrison’s Batman, Inc. is a $6.99 paperback (or “prestige format” title, as they used to call it), so the 10K drop isn’t as dire as it looks. Still, I’m curious where sales will pick up when the book returns in May. It’s probably going to hinge on whether DC can convince the audience that Morrison’s long-term Batman arc is still relevant in the relaunched DC Universe.

On the downside, once again, the drops are increasing, small as they may be compared to the rest of the line.

As you may guess from looking at the drops to date, Green Arrow isn’t doing all that well. It’s one of the first two “New 52″ titles to display a negative 12-month comparison, and unlike Batman: The Dark Knight, it doesn’t have a good excuse. The last Green Arrow #4, also written by J.T. Krul and published in September 2010, sold an estimated 44,220 units, so the “New 52″ relaunch isn’t very sustaining by comparison.
Nor, for that matter, does it look like the book is finding its level anytime soon. The new creative team taking over with issue #7 have their work cut out for them.

A few years back, Brian Wood comics used to be comparatively solid performers at Vertigo, both as periodicals and as paperback collections, but this doesn’t seem to be true anymore. Je ne pense pas que la comparaison des ventes par année puisse réellement signifier quelque chose tout dépend de l'état du marché...
C'est comme pour l'industrie du disque, aujourd'hui faire 20 ou 30 000 ventes n'est pas déshonorant au contraire c'est un petit succes alors qu'il ya un peu plus de 10 ans ce serait un échec commercial.
Des stars qui vendaient des millions d'albums à l'époque se "contentent "de centaines de milliers aujourd'hui.
( d'ailleurs aujourd'hui c'est les tournées qui rapportent des sous pas les disques. )
Dans le meme ordre d'idées ce sont d'autres média ou support qui font que "nos"comics existent encore:
CINEMA, TV, ( et peut bientot les comics digitaux...).
Mais j'avoue que voir la plupart des séries se vendre en dessous des 50 000 me fait mal au coeur.
OK c'est vrai que les comics ont droit à une seconde vie grace aux TPB mais quand meme...
Je pense que les éditeurs devraient peut etre produire moins de titres et se concentrer plus sur la qualité que la quantité.
C'est moins cher de publier 1 titre qui se vendrait à 100 000 ex, que 10 titres à 10 000 ex.

Leur souci est plus la distribution..
Pour echapper à la crise des 70's, les editeurs ont arrétés de passer par les "marchands de journaux"qui renvoyaient les invendus (enfin... (1) ) pour ne distribuer qu en comics Shops.
Hors les librairies specialisées sont pas trouvable partout.. Tu ne tombes plus par hasard sur un comics.. (qui n a pas commencé soit car ses parents ont acehtés une BD avec le journal ou les clopes ou a acheté un comics en cherchant autre chose).
Ils ont donc parlés aux collectionneurs, a un public qui vieillissait.. et là aujourd hui.. 4$ pour 10 mn.. c est pas rentable par rapport au cinéma, aux jeux videos, à la TV.. à internet...

Y a un vrai souci au niveau du renouvellement du lectorat..
Tant que les collectionneurs ont cru s enrichir avec des comics, le marché a augmenté... apres la crise de 94... ca n a cessé de tomber (a part en 2009, je crois..)


(1) et encore, les kiosques ne renvoyait pas les BD mais signaient des papiers disant les avoir détruits en envoyant la couverture... certains comics auraient eu a subir de reventes d invendus dans les 70's (Swamp Thing, Xmen ou Warlock par exemple)

Ils devraient être entre -3 et -7% pour etre stabilisés... surtout qu au 4, les precommandes sont faites pares avoir lu/reçu le #1 : ca pose des questions.
A partir de Stormwatch, les titres sont en danger (a part All star Western qui se stabilise).
Et Justice League International fait peur... la perte du lectorat s accelere...
Au #5 si leur ventes se stabilisent pas un peu.. ca va etre soit la fin (certains titres sont déjà arrétés) ou l effet de choc...ou un changement d equipe creative.(mais bon certaines ont été annoncée trop tôt.. ca fait un peu improvisation).

Bref sur 52 titres, tu as 10-15 succes 10 en attente 5 qui ont un following qui sera surement suffisant et 17 qui vont mordre la poussiere à coup presque sur dans les mois a venir.
Pour l instant ca reste toujours une bon coup de la part de DC. Et a priori ca le restera jusqu en mars au moins.

Un gars a calculé des estimations pour le mois dernier, il semblerait que beaucoup de séries se stabilisent enfin.
Il ne s'agit que d'estimations, basées sur un postulat raisonnablement pertinent mais invérifiable, et qui reste donc totalement théorique. Mais c'est interessant:

En regardant sans les chiffres, on peut penser que Stormwatch perd moins de lecteurs.
Par contre en dessous de Demon Knights (qui a de bonnes reviews et pourrait donc avoir un sursis), le reste est condamné a court terme..
Il y a rarement des surprises pour ses petits titres...
D ailleurs chez Marvel on peut s inquieter pour Academy, Tbolts ou Hulk (le rouge)...

Le gars en question a fait une estimation des quantités vendues grace à une simple règle de trois. Son postulat de base me semble raisonnable (même si j'y aurais appliqué avant un -1,5% "d'inertie"par rapport aux mois précédents). En imaginant qu'il n'ait pas trop surestimé les résultats (mais surestimation il y a, ce serait trop beau), beaucoup de titres commenceraient à se stabiliser...

c est pas super fameux JLI perd encore 8000 copies et en dessous de la Legion...
Hawkman boit la tasse... a moins que Liefield fasse electro choc.. cette serie est dejà enterée.. et en dessous...

A contrario red Lantern ou Swamp Thing, Nightwing ou New Guardians, Batgirl ou Batwoman ou WonderWoman sont de franches reussites en terme de ventes..
surtout Aquaman!!!

Les autres des 10 1ers etaient plus attendus mais restent un execellent coup.

Je viens de comparer aux estimations du gars dont on parlait au dessus et il ne s'est vraiment pas trompé de beaucoup!

Pas mal de bonnes nouvelles en tout cas!
Sans faire les calculs, la chute des titres du Top 10 se ralenti considérablement à l'exception de Batman &Robin qui reste largement au dessus des 10% et Flash qui les atteint presque.
Par contre les autres 3 titres Batman se stabilisent (Detective Comics est le grand gagnant) et Aquaman gagne même quelques ventes!

Mais au bas du classement, la berezina continue:
All Star Western, Demon Knights, Frankenstein, I Vampire et Voodoo chutent toujours lourdement, on est encore dans les moins 15-20 %...

Pour la première fois, des titres des New 52 vendent plus que précédemment. C'est le cas de Superman qui augmente ses ventes de 7.03%, de Batman: The Dark Knight de 8.48%, de Detective Comics de 11.08% et d'Aquaman de 11.34%.
D'autres titres sont particulièrement stables. Wonder Woman vend seulement 49 exemplaires de moins que le mois précédent soit une baisse de 0.08%, Teen Titans perd 0.59%, New Guardians 1.88%, Swamp Thing 1.91%, Batman 2.46%, Justice League 2.58%.

Le plus gros gadin est Blackhawks avec -18.92%, suivi de Fury of Firestorm avec -16.72%, Men of War avec -15.21% et Savage Hawkman avec -15.2%.

Plusieurs titres passent sous les 20'000 ventes (dans l'ordre des moins mauvaises ventes): Fury of Firetorm, Legion Lost, DCU Presents, Grifter et Resurrection Man. Le mois prochain risquent de passer sous cette barre: Frankenstein, Deathstroke, Batwing et Savage Hawkman.

On peut penser que la plupart de ces titres ainsi que Blue Beetle (-11.05%), Captain Atom (-12.41%), I Vampire (-12.9%) et Voodoo (-14.59%) devraient s'arrêter prochainement.

Le cas All-Star Western n'est pas mauvais mais pas brillant. Le titre perd 7.3%;moins que le mois précédent mais plus que les pertes moyennes des titres du top 50.

Oh, par ailleurs, dans les "bonnes"ventes, on peut noter le gadin de deux titres: Justice League Dark et Green Arrow. Le premier perd 12 places et près de 3'400 lecteurs (-8.39%) et Green Arrow perd 9.49% de ses lecteurs et devrait passer sous les 30'000 ventes le mois prochain.

Je ne connais pas le seul de rentabilité. Après il doit être différent suivant l'équipe artistique.

Certaines séries sont déjà annulées comme OMAC, Men of War, Blackhawks, Static Shock, Mister Terrific et Hawk &Dove (dernier numéro: le :: . Les autres devraient être annulées autour du 12e numéro d'après ce que j'ai lu dans une interview;on n'a pas encore les titres mais il me semble qu'ils attendent d'avoir de nouveaux projets à proposer à la place et aussi de pouvoir remplir un second TPB.

A vrai dire, chez DC et Marvel les titres sont arretés bien avant d'atteindre leur seuil de rentabilité. Quand un titre est annulé, ce n'est pas seulement une question de rentabilité, c'est surtout une question de politique. Récemment, la politique de Marvel a été de rehausser ce seuil et c'est ce qui explique la dernière vague d'annonces d'annulations. Il y a un an, avec ce niveau de ventes, ces titres auraient continué.
Il faut voir aussi que DC et Marvel prennent également en compte la seconde carrière du titre en TPB qui peut compenser dans une certaine mesure le manque de rentabilité en single.
Le seuil de rentabilité d'un single est donc assez... flou.

Tommy, j'ai vu que tu as fait ton calcul en te basant sur les données de décembre d'ICV2.
Si tu regardes les chiffres corrigés par the Beat (ici: http://www.comicsbeat.com/2012/01/27/dc ... mber-2011/), ça relativise certaines évolutions, comme par exemple celle d'Aquaman qui était returnable et qui ne l'est plus.
On parlait récemment de la "triche"de Marvel, mais DC n'est pas en reste avec ses titres returnables à condition d'en prendre un certain nombre. Encore une filouterie qui doit pas mal impacter sur les chiffres réels!

Bon, déjà un coup de gueule: il y a trop de crossovers et de changements d'équipe. J'aurais souhaité arrêter Legion Lost, mais la série est en plein crossover avec les Teen Titans, Superboy et Ravagers (bon courage à Urban si vous souhaitiez publier une de ces séries). Ensuite, Peter Milligan arrive sur Stormwatch donc finalement je vais laisser une chance au titre et enfin, Jeff Lemire arrive sur Justice League Dark donc forcément j'achète (mais je zappe quand même I Vampire durant le crossover).
Blue Beetle est aussi en crossover, avec Green Lantern: New Guardians, "m'obligeant"à prendre ce titre pour le numéro de mai et par contre je ne prendrai pas Justice League International même si c'est un en crossover avec Firestorm.

Point remarquable, pour le deuxième mois consécutif, DC remporte le Top 10.
Pour l'évolution des ventes, tout en tenant compte de la remarque de Jaun la dernière fois, je vais à nouveau m'y essayer en espérant qu'il n'y ait pas eu de politique cachée de DC sur l'influence des ventes entre ces deux derniers mois.
On remarque qu'Aquaman perd des lecteurs, mais seulement 2.5% et passe désormais au-dessus de Batman &Robin en se hissant à la 9e place. Justice League perd toujours très peu avec 2.3% et un seul titre vend plus: Batman the Dark Knight. Relativisons, le titre n'a gagné que 0.41% de lecteurs.

Action Comics de Morrison reste en 3e place mais se prend un gadin de 8%. Mais avant d'aller chez les désespérés, regardons ceux qui ont le mieux survécu:
- Batman avec -1.56%
- Justice League avec -2.31%
- Aquaman avec -2.53%
- Teen Titans avec -2.72%
- I Vampire avec -3.52%
- Batman &Robin avec -3.69%

Comme cela semblait se confirmer, All-Star Western reste stable et I Vampire le devient. Mais pour ce dernier titre, est-ce que ce sera suffisant? Je crains que non puisque malgré la légère baisse le titre peine à dépasser les 16'000 exemplaires.
Parmi les gros gadins on a Green Arrown qui perd -10.41% et 3000 lecteurs, Stormwatch qui perd 10.43% et aussi 3000 lecteurs, Hawkman avec -11.06% et 2400 lecteurs, Deathstroke avec -10.75% (je me demande la chute qu'il va y avoir avec l'arrivée de Liefeld...), Frankenstein et Fury of Firestorm avec -10% et -10.16% le premier passant sous les 20'000, Resurrection Man et Blue Beetle avec -10.5% chacun. Captain Atom avec -12.71% prend l'autoroute vers la suppression du titre cumulant cette lourde perte en pourcentage en tombant sous les 15'000 lecteurs.
La palme est attribuée à... tous les titres annoncés comme annulés qui perdent tous six entre 13 et 16%. Voodoo plonge dans l'abysse, sous les 15'000, I Vampire risque d'y arriver avec ses 16'338 lecteurs.

Le point sur les séries sous les 20'000 (et non annoncées comme annulées pour l'instant mais qui risquent de l'être au n°12): Voodoo, I Vampire, Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, Resurrection Man, Grifter, DC Universe Presents, Legion Lost, Fury of Firestorm, Frankenstein, Deathstroke, Batwing et Hawkman.

si c est stable et a de bonnes reviews et de bonnes ventes TP ca suffira pour DC comme Jonah Hex avant le reboot..
C est plus les titres "superheros"qui sont sont à 20000 et en dessous et continuent avec + de 3% de pertes qui vont etre sur le grill..
A - 10% c est la quasi certitude de l annulation si ca continue aprés le 7 (et l arrivée des nouvelles equipes creatives)

-Talon, écrit par Scott Snyder avec James Tynion IV et Guillem March, venant du crossover Night of the Owls

-Sword And Sorcery, par Christy Marx et Aaron Lopresti, reprise d'une série des années 80 "Amethyst Princess Of Gemworld"(le titre me glace le sang)

-Team Seven, par Justin Jordan et Jesus Merino, reprise d'une série Wildstorm liée à Gen13 mais les personnages seraient mixés avec du DC pour combattre Superman, les membres : Steve Trevor, Dinah Lance, Amanda Waller, John Lynch, Cole Cash, Alex Fairchild et Slade Wilson

Faut-il s'attendre à un tranfert retentissant ? Ou à une promotion interne ?
En tout cas, DC cherche un nouveau dessinateur pour "Justice League"car Jim Lee va quitter le titre, pour certainement dessiner le futur event "Trinity War"(probablement écrit par Geoff Johns). Et DC a des exigences pour ce poste : l'artiste devra être capable d'enchaîner une douzaine d'épisodes, et serait une vedette confirmée.
La rumeur évoque trois noms :

- Bryan Hitch : guère problable - il ne peut enchaîner 12 épisodes sans retard et il n'a pas quitté Marvel pour aller chez DC refaire une ongoing. Il semble par ailleurs avoir un projet avec Millar, une fois sa mini-série "America's got powers"(chez Image, écrite par Jonathan Ross)...

- Stuart Immonen : depuis "Fear Itself", il n'a dessiné que des one-shots chez Marvel, et son nom n'est associé à aucun projet (à part un creator-owned avec sa femme, mais pour lequel il compte prendre son temps). Il est, lui, capable de dessiner 12 épisodes d'affilée sans retard, et son retour chez DC serait une sacrée prise pour l'éditeur.

- Ivan Reis : le dessinateur fêtiche d'Ivan Reis quitterait "Aquaman"pour accèder à la série-phare de DC (pour laquelle il a singé quelques planches). En revanche, peut-il dessiner 12 épisodes sans retard ?

Pour la princesse de Gemworld, j'aurais pu tenter le coup mais déjà que le sujet ne m'intéresse pas, si en plus on a des back-up, ça veut dire que les numéros seront à 3.99$, donc non merci.

Sinon, apparemment, Justice League International est annulée après son annual d'août. Ce titre ne manquera pas à grand-monde :mrgreen:

4 des rares titres que je ne suivais pas (plus, sauf Voodoo que je n'avais jamais commencé). Il faut dire que c'était assez mauvais.
