Si on suit le lien vers la source VO actualisée de l'article VF on voit six nouveaux visuels qui semblent de plus en plus contredire la version du simple mash-up...

Après plusieurs teasers, on sait enfin de quoi retourne Heroes Reborn, le nouveau gros projet de Marvel Comics.

Ce sera donc une mini-série en cinq numéros qui débutera en mai prochain. Le scénariste Jason Aaron et le dessinateur Ed Mc Guinness imagineront un monde où les Avengers ne se sont pas formés. Tony Stark n’a pas construit l’armure d’Iron Man, Thor est un alcoolique athée et Captain America est resté en hibernation au fin fond de l’Antarctique. En lieu et place, c’est l’Escadron Suprême qui protège le monde des menaces de Dr. Fléau, du Crâne Noir, de la Sorcière d’Argent, de Thanos et de ses Anneaux d’Infinités. Seul Blade, le fameux chasseur de vampires, semble se souvenir de la véritable réalité.

Jason Aaron et Ed Mc Guinness continuent donc leur collaboration entamée avec la reprise « Fresh Start » des Avengers. Pour l’occasion, ils reprennent l’appellation d’Heroes Reborn, une opération qui date de 1996-1997 où les Avengers et les Fantastic Four avaient été réimaginés par les stars d’Image Comics, Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio et Rob Liefeld. Pour autant, le concept renvoie plutôt à Age of Apocalypse (1995-1996), cross-over X-Men présentant également une réalité alternative et où seul Bishop avait le souvenir de la véritable ligne temporelle.

As part of the 'Heroes Reborn' event, Spider-Man will be re-imagined in a new one-shot titled Peter Parker, The Amazing Shutterbug #1. This Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen-esque take on Marvel's wall-crawler will be written by journalist-turned-fiction writer Marc Bernardin and artist Rafael De Latorre.

"I couldn't be more excited to put Peter Parker through his paces for the 'Heroes Reborn' event,"Bernardin tells Newsarama. "As a New York nerd, Spider-Man has always held a special place in my heart, and to get to strip away much of what we know about the character and rediscover what makes Peter tick is proving to be a blast. A lifetime spent making dumb quips is, finally, being put to good use."
In Heroes Reborn: Peter Parker, The Amazing Shutterbug #1, Bernardin and Latorre put Peter Parker BACK in his digs as a photographer at The Daily Bugle - this time as a chance for wallcrawler to get buddy-buddy with his favorite superhero, Hyperion. (Yeah, that's part of the 'Heroes Reborn' status quo change as well).

"Peter Parker is the biggest Hyperion fan in the world, and he also just happens to be chummy with his favorite hero thanks to a photography gig at the Daily Bugle!,"reads Marvel's description of the one-shot. "SURELY, nothing can go wrong, with his camera (and him) in the heart of the action… Right?"

Based on that and the infamous Parker luck, we imagine something DOES go wrong "with his camera (and him) in the heart of the action... "

Heroes Reborn: Siege Society by writer Cody Ziglar and artist Paco Medina is a 'Heroes Reborn' reimagining of the Masters of Evil and/or the Thunderbolts concept, with very familiar names joining the line-up.

Baron Zemo remains the leader and he's joined by Victor Creed, otherwise known in the mainstream Marvel Universe as X-Men villain/sometimes-ally Sabretooth.

But rounding out the line-up is three superheroes with villainous pasts or origins -Natasha Romanov (Black Widow), Clint Barton (Hawkeye), and Scott Lang (Ant-Man) - all of who in the 'Heroes Reborn' Avengers-less reality apparently never made the hero turn.

Although not mentioned in Marvel's description, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver amalgam Silver Witch is also on the cover. They too originated briefly as villains in the Marvel U.

"After the Civil War that split the Squadron Supreme in half, Nighthawk formed his own Squadron in Europe,"reads Marvel's description. "But not all of Europe is okay with it. Baron Zemo has put together his own team to take them down and the Squadron doesn't stand a chance."

Namedropping Civil War, arguably Marvel's most successful modern universe-wide event is noteworthy. Apparently, in the 'Heroes Reborn' reality, the Squadron Supreme, who essentially takes the place of the Avengers, had their own civil war. It'll be interesting to see if Marvel adapts Civil War into its own 'Heroes Reborn' special later in the event.

This June's Heroes Reborn: American Knights #1 reframes the loose assemblage of street-level heroes into a squad led by police commissioner Luke Cage.

Yeah, that's right…. police commissioner Luke Cage.

In this alt-reality of 'Heroes Reborn,' many of Marvel's characters have been tweaked (and in some cases, transformed) into new roles. Here, the world's dominant superhero team the Squadron Supreme of America has put cop boss Luke Cage on the job of curtailing anybody from acting as vigilantes.

"Backed by the Squadron Supreme, commissioner Cage thinks he's bulletproof. He's dead wrong,"reads Marvel's synopsis for Heroes Reborn: American Knights #1. "And it'll take a Saint to prove it. Someone is cleaning up criminals who've escaped justice – and leaving a bloody trail in their wake. This is the Squadron's world, and the age of vigilantes is over. Police Commissioner Luke Cage has one job: Find the scum and eliminate them – before ambition takes them beyond the city streets."

Who is this "Saint"that will be acting against Luke Cage? It isn't the iconic pulp hero the Saint (as Marvel doesn't own him), and it isn't one of the three minor Marvel characters who've gone by the name (sorry dog fans, it's not Quincy Harker's attack dog).

This new Saint is Daredevil.

If you look closely at Chris Sprouse's cover to Heroes Reborn: American Knights #1, Daredevil is missing his trademark 'DD' logo - instead replaced with a rather whispy 'S'. Given the Man without Fear's Catholic leanings, this angelic nickname rather fits - especially given his mother became a nun in mainstream Marvel continuity.

Nighthawk also appears in the cover - and presumably, in the story itself. He's a mainstay of the Squadron Supreme, but in this 2021 'Heroes Reborn' continuity it's been announced he quit the team over their version of Civil War, and set up shop in Europe. He'll be facing Baron Zemo over in the Heroes Reborn: Siege Society one-shot in May.

This reimagining of Marvel characters in new roles is old hat for Paul Grist, the writer of Heroes Reborn: American Knights #1. Grist rose to popularity with a creator-owned version of this kind of thinking - his character Jack Staff was originally born out of a rejected pitch for Marvel's Union Jack character. But with Heroes Reborn: American Knights, Grist is doing it with core Marvel characters, inside the Marvel U.

"These stories are always fun, giving you a chance to play around with characters that you wouldn't get to do in their regular stories,"Grist says. "The Marvel characters have been so well defined over the years it's interesting to be able to take them out of their usual settings and situations and see how they respond."

"It's when you get a chance to be able to strip away all the things that make the characters heroes in their own world, their costumes, the fancy powers, and see what sort of people they really are. Would they still make it as heroes if the world had been different?"

Then there's Weapon X and Final Flight #1 from writer Ed Brisson and artist Roland Boschi, which follows the Heroes Reborn version of Wolverine as he leads the only remaining members of Alpha Flight in seeking revenge on their enemies, the Squadron Supreme of America.

"After a battle between the two, Canada is left in ruins. Alpha Flight's roster has been decimated and millions of Canadians killed,"Brisson tells AiPT, who announced Weapon X and Final Flight.

"Logan here is much like the Logan we all know and love. He's the best at what he does and what he does in this book is seeking revenge. The Squadron has killed everyone Logan cares about and he's not about to let it lie,"Brisson continues.

"This book has been a great deal of fun to work on. I get to play around in the moral grey area of superhero battles and their fallout and don't think folks are prepared for what we have in store for them."

The official solicitation for Weapon X and Final Flight sheds some more light on the tension between Canada and the Squadron Supreme, describing the Squadron devastating and essentially conquering Canada.

"In a world without the Avengers, the Squadron Supreme protects and defends the interests of America! But where does that leave a country like Canada?"reads the solicitation. "The Great White North is now a wasteland. Their forests are scorched. Their provinces annexed. Their people barely surviving. Who will stand up and protect them from the supremacy of the Squadron? Weapon X and Final Flight, that's who!"
